04/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 3 March, Stéphane Bijoux (Renew Europe, France) welcomed the European Commission’s decision to propose renewing the system of dock dues in France’s outermost regions (Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique and Réunion) for the period 2022-2027. This system allows exemptions or reductions to be granted with respect to dock dues for a limited list of locally manufactured products. In a statement, Bijoux, who has become very involved in this issue alongside the French government, said that this was “an important victory in our efforts to protect local production and encourage innovation”. The MEP particularly welcomed the increase in the threshold for dock dues, from €300,000 to €550,000 in annual turnover. The European Parliament will be consulted for its opinion on this proposal.
