04/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 3 March, by a consensus decision, the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) adopted the preliminary peer review report on the highly controversial nuclear power plant in Ostrovets (Belarus). Based on information from the Belarusian authorities and an ENSREG expert mission to the plant site carried out on 9 and 10 February, the report concludes that progress has been made in addressing all of the recommendations related to the seven high priority issues. The high priority issues relate to natural hazards (earthquakes), safety functions and severe accident management. The peer review is now entering its second phase, which will cover all of the other recommendations and will include another visit by ENSREG experts to the plant site as soon as the health situation has improved. A final report will then be published. The preliminary report can be found at: https://bit.ly/388WKw1 (DG)
