04/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The United States and the United Kingdom announced on Thursday 4 March that there would be a suspension of tariffs for 4 months in relation to the Airbus/Boeing dispute. It is, above all, an announcement from Washington, since London had already suspended punitive tariffs on imports of American products on 1 January in an attempt to signal to its partner, a desire for appeasement. For MEP Bernd Lange (S&D, Germany), who is the chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade (INTA), this is seen as a hopeful sign. “Now the US must also suspend tariffs on European products. This has been a long-standing request from the European Commissioner for Trade and supported by the INTA committee – the suspension of customs duties for 6 months and attempts to negotiate a solution at the same time”, he said.
