23/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – Most households in low-income European countries cannot afford to buy “clean” heating solutions and therefore have no choice but to install gas boilers, which generally cost 3 times less than a heat pump, says the NGO network European Environmental Bureau (EEB) in an analysis published Monday 22 February in the framework of the Coolproducts campaign. “A household in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Portugal or Romania may take 10 years longer than one in France, Germany, Italy or the UK to recover the installation costs of a heat pump, and five or more years longer for solar thermal installations”, the analysis says. The EEB also pointed out the inadequacy of incentives (loans, grants and tax reductions) and the continued use of subsidies to finance the installation of new gas boilers.
