23/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – The EU is coordinating the deployment of a medical team to Slovakia to support the intensive care treatment of patients with Covid-19, in response to a request for assistance from the EU’s civil protection mechanism in Bratislava, the Commission announced on Tuesday 23 February. Romania has already proposed a team of 5 doctors and 9 specialised nurses. The EU is also mobilising additional personal protective equipment for Serbia (600,000 FFP2 masks and 650,000 pairs of gloves) for medical personnel from the RescEU strategic reserve of medical equipment, hosted by Greece. In a statement, the European Commissioner, Janez Lenarčič, thanked Romania. EU Member States can apply for funding to support the transfer of patients and transport of medical staff through the EU’s Emergency Support Instrument. (AN)
