22/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 22 February, the European Ministers of Foreign Affairs took stock of the extremely worrying situation in Tigray (Ethiopia) on the basis of the report given to them by the Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pekka Haavisto, who had been mandated by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, for a mission to the Horn of Africa from 7 to 9 February (see EUROPE 12654/23). “Almost four months after the beginning of the conflict, 80% of the population is still not accessible and is subject to a total blackout. And in areas where fighting continues, there is no humanitarian access”, Mr Borrell told the press. The European External Action Service will prepare EU Council conclusions. They will call for full humanitarian access, investigation of human rights violations and respect for international humanitarian law. (AN)
