09/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto—whom the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, appointed to undertake a mission in the Horn of Africa, which is threatened by destabilisation—travelled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Tuesday, 9 February, to meet the Ethiopian authorities and speak with the re-elected authorities of the African Union (see EUROPE 12653/14 and 12643/8). An EU spokesman told EUROPE on Tuesday that in Sudan, where Mr Haavisto had visited on 7 and 8 February, “he discussed regional issues and cross-border tensions between Sudan and Ethiopia, but he also reaffirmed the EU’s support for the Sudanese transition”.
