European Parliament gives go-ahead for appointment of Frank Elderson as Vice-President of Executive Board

Brussels, 09/02/2021 (Agence Europe)On Monday 8 February, the European Parliament approved by a large majority (572 votes in favour, 71 against, 50 abstentions) the appointment of Frank Elderson as Vice-President of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB). This appointment had already been endorsed by the European Council in December 2020 (see EUROPE 12620/7). The European Parliament has noted that all EU bodies and institutions should take specific actions to ensure a gender balance in the allocation of senior European positions. The Executive Board of the ECB currently consists of four men and two women, including the President of the monetary institute, Christine Lagarde, and Isabel Schnabel from Germany.
