European Parliament enquiry group on Frontex agency starts activities on 23 February

The working group of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties charged with investigating the accusations of pushback against the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontex, will hold its constituent meeting on 23 February, the European Parliament announced on Monday 22 February in a statement. The decision to create this group was taken on 29 January (see EUROPE 12647/25).

The enquiry group will meet over a period of 4 months and will have the task of assessing Frontex’s compliance with fundamental rights and European law at the external borders. The group will meet twice a month.

It is made up of: - for the EPP, Roberta Metsola (Malta) and Lena Düpont (Germany); - for S&D, Bettina Vollath (Austria) and Javier Moreno Sánchez (Spain); - for Renew Europe, Malik Azmani (Netherlands) and Dragoș Tudorache (Romania); - for ID, Nicolas Bay (France) and Peter Kofod (Denmark); - for the Greens/EFA, Erik Marquardt (Germany) and Tineke Strik (Netherlands); - for ECR, Patryk Jaki (Poland) and Jorge Buxadé Villalba (Spain); - for The Left, Sira Rego (Spain) and Cornelia Ernst (Germany).
