19/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – In response to a request from Moldova for assistance from the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, Romania has offered a range of personal protective equipment against coronavirus, said the European Commission on Friday 19 February. The shipment, which was dispatched the same day, consists of 1,500,000 surgical masks, 100,000 FFP3 masks, 100,000 protective suits and 100,000 gloves. The Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, said he was “grateful to Romania for their solidarity with Moldova”. This shipment supplements other shipments of equipment to combat Covid-19 that have already been made to the EU’s neighbouring country (see EUROPE 12655/32, 12471/4). Since the start of the pandemic, 30 countries have benefited from this. The EU coordinates and co-finances the transport costs. (AN)
