17/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – In 2020, 72% of people aged 16–74 in the EU purchased goods or ordered services for private use via the internet, according to a press release published on Wednesday 17 February by Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office. Online purchases increased by 4 percentage points compared to 2019 (68% of Internet users) and by 10 percentage points in comparison with 2015 (62%). This increase can be particularly explained by the restrictive measures put in place as a result of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. However, wide disparities still remain between Member States. In this way, the Netherlands has the highest rate of online purchases (91% of Internet users), followed closely by Germany (87%); Bulgaria, meanwhile, was at the bottom of the list (42%).
