11/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 10 February, the EU welcomed the establishment of the new transitional government of Sudan, which took place on the same day. “We encourage Sudan’s new transitional government to accelerate the country’s political and economic reform programme and to make further progress in implementing the Juba Peace Agreement”, emphasises a statement by the spokesperson for the European External Action Service. This requires “Sudanese political factions to work together constructively for the benefit of the Sudanese people, who have been deeply affected by the dire economic situation”. The EU considers it essential that an early political agreement be reached between the different stakeholders to enable the establishment of the Transitional Legislative Council and assures that it will continue to support Sudan’s political and economic transition.
