11/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 10 February, MEPs approved, under the urgency procedure (647 votes in favour, 24 against and 19 abstentions), a draft regulation aimed, once again, at allowing the renewal of certificates, licences and approvals in the transport sector as well as the postponement of certain periodic training and periodic checks (see EUROPE 12638/6). The agreed text corresponds to the one adopted by Member States last week (see EUROPE 12650/5) and will therefore, mainly, allow for an extension of the validity of certificates, licences and authorisations with an expiry date between 1 September 2020 and 30 June 2021 for those countries where this is not possible due to health restrictions. The EU Council will still have to formally adopt the new rules so that they can enter into force after their publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. (AC)
