25/01/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 25 January, the Council of the EU adopted its position at first reading on the revision of the regulation on rail passengers' rights (see EUROPE 12572/9). In particular, the revised regulation introduces new provisions on single tickets, re-routing of passengers and the liability of companies in cases of force majeure. Supported at the end of October by the European Parliament's Transport Committee (38 votes in favour, 7 against and 4 abstentions), it still has to be adopted by the plenary at second reading. The revised regulation will then enter into force 20 days after its publication in the EU's Official Journal and will start to apply 2 years later. With one exception: the space requirements for bicycles will apply 4 years after the regulation comes into force. See text: https://bit.ly/3sVamUv (AC)
