23/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – French economist Gabriel Zucman, assisted by a team from the Paris School of Economics, has been selected, following a call for proposals, to set up the EU Tax Observatory, Benjamin Angel, Director for Direct Taxation at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Taxation (DG TAXUD), announced on Twitter on Monday 23 November. In addition, the EU Tax Observatory will be responsible for making recommendations in the field of tax fraud, tax evasion and aggressive tax planning, as well as establishing a public register of data and analysis on tax fraud and tax evasion. The Observatory will also have to liaise with various international organisations and national administrations on issues relating to the development of EU policies in the field of taxation and the fight against money laundering.
