03/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – While it is currently evaluating the performance of Directive 2006/126 on driving licences, on Wednesday 28 October the European Commission invited European citizens, associations and professional organisations to send it their recommendations by next 20 January. The Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vălean, committed herself at the beginning of her mandate to update this directive (see EUROPE 12430/12). This evaluation - the first since the application of the text in 2013 - should make it possible to check whether the text has contributed to improving road safety, making it easier for Europeans to travel by car and reducing the possibility of driving licence fraud. “The results of the evaluation will be taken into consideration to determine if changes and/or improvements are necessary to the Driving Licence Directive”, the Commission says.
