03/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission wrote a letter to the Hungarian government on 29 October asking how it intended to implement the Court of Justice ruling of 6 October (see EUROPE 12575/14) which invalidated its law on foreign universities, Justice Spokesman Christian Wigand said on Tuesday 3 November. “The Court’s decisions are immediately binding on the Member States, which must take the appropriate measures as soon as possible”, he commented. “Hungary has been notified that it must take concrete and urgent measures to comply with the Court’s decision”. The letter asks Budapest to inform the Commission of the measures taken and, in particular, the timetable adopted, while there are reports in the Hungarian media that universities are reporting difficulties in accessing funding following the invalidation of the law.
