23/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – In a Resolution adopted after an urgent debate over the “new crackdown on political opposition and civil dissent in Turkey” as requested by the European United Left, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe listed a series of measures it expects the Turkish authorities to take in three areas: the functioning of democratic institutions; the Rule of law; respect for human rights. This Resolution was drafted under the aegis of the follow-up committee on the honouring of obligations and commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe. The Swedish Socialist Thomas Hammerberg and British Conservative John Howell, co-rapporteurs for Turkey said “serious concerns are currently raised with regard to the compliance of Turkey's external actions, including military operations” and announced that this aspect would be included in their next progress reports.
