Successful donor conference for Rohingya, with nearly $600 million pledged

The donor conference co-organised by the US, UK, EU and UNHCR for the Rohingya in Burma and their host communities on Thursday 22 October was a success (see EUROPE B12583A13).

Of the $1 billion expected to be needed this year, nearly $600 million has been pledged.

More than a million Rohingya have been displaced in the region.

On behalf of the EU, the Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, announced a new allocation of €20 million from the Emergency Aid Reserve....
