30/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) announced on Sunday 27 September that it had adopted an opinion calling on the European Commission to draw up a recovery plan for the aviation sector with specific resources to support “all sub-sectors and their workforces”. The opinion in question stresses that “aviation is not only about airlines, it is also about other important players, such as airports, air navigation service providers, ground handling services, etc”. The EESC considers the European aviation sector to be strategic and crucial to Europe's economy and employment and so is recommending a policy response that guarantees the sector’s recovery in the short term and its international competitiveness in the long term. It also stresses the need to maintain high-quality jobs and proper working conditions. (AC)
