21/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz confirmed on Monday 21 September at an online conference organised by the European Commission (see separate news item) that the German EU Council Presidency will not obstruct the decision-making process for the country-by-country reporting (CBCR) tax transparency proposal. According to him, a “large majority” are reportedly in favour of the proposal, which has been blocked in the EU Council for years (see EUROPE 12384/3), and the subject could return to the ministerial agenda “quite soon”. However, the Minister did not give any commitment as to his country’s support for this proposal. “As a government, we will not have a common view on the question, but as the Presidency, we will support any debate and a decision-making process, and this is what we are looking at now”, he said.
