21/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said the European side “agreed” to the revision of the timetable for the completion of the establishment of a free trade area between Algeria and the European Union, AFP reported on Monday 21 September. According to the EU/Algeria Association Agreement, this zone should have permanently entered into force on 1 September, after having been postponed a first time from 2017 to 2020 for certain products such as steel, textiles, electronic products and automobiles. Algiers has repeatedly asked to renegotiate an agreement that the Algerian authorities consider too unfavourable. A joint decision by the EU/Algeria Association Council is required to formalise the postponement. (MB)
