MEPs approve Interinstitutional Agreement on CCP resolution framework

03/09/2020 (Agence Europe)MEPs on the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) approved on Wednesday 2 September, by 42 votes to 13 with four abstentions, the agreement reached at the end of June (see EUROPE 12513/19) between representatives of the European Parliament and the EU Council Presidency on the proposal for a regulation on the establishment of a single resolution and recovery framework for central clearing houses (CCPs) authorised in the EU. As a reminder, the agreement broadly maintains the architecture of the Commission's proposal (see EUROPE 11677/8) in three stages, namely: - the development of preventative resolution and recovery plans; - the potential for competent authorities to intervene in CCP operations when their viability is at risk; - and the activation of the resolution plans. (MF)
