03/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – The NGO Oxfam has called on Athens and the EU, on Thursday 3 September, for “immediate and radical changes” in asylum and migration policy after the discovery of the first case of coronavirus in the Moria refugee camp, which is the largest on the Greek islands. The Greek policy in relation to this, which is tougher than that of the previous government and which has been criticised “cannot be a model for EU asylum reform”, according to Oxfam and the Greek Council for Refugees (GCR), especially since the 'Asylum and Migration Pact' is expected this month. The two NGOs believe that “the appalling conditions in the Moria camp on Lesbos, where people often do not even have water to wash their hands, now risk facilitating a health tragedy”. (SP)
