03/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – German Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht told the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs on Thursday, 3 September, that the subject of the Rule of law would also be discussed at the December Justice Council, as this subject is now primarily the responsibility of the General Affairs Council. “We strongly support the Commission's approach of having a preventive mechanism for the Rule of law in all Member States. I am pleased to be having an initial discussion on the annual report on the Rule of law soon”, she commented. Two discussions will be held under the German Presidency of the Council of the EU, one general and the other “in November” on a group of “five countries”. The Ministers of Justice will be called upon to “make a major contribution to the discussion on the Rule of law”, she added. (SP/MF)
