09/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament formally approved at second reading on Wednesday 8 July, the provisional agreement reached with the EU Council last November (see EUROPE 12378/8) on the electronic exchange of information in freight (eFTI). As no amendments had been tabled by MEPs, the Rules of Procedure were validated as they stood, without even a vote being required. The text, also validated by the EU Council in April, will therefore be able to enter into force within 20 days of its publication in the Official Journal of the EU. This new legislation will facilitate the transmission of information in digital format between companies in the sector and public authorities. However, those who wish to do so will still be able to use paper, which is still widely favoured today. (AC)
