09/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – European Commission spokesperson Dana Spirant announced on Thursday 9 July that a virtual summit between the EU and India will be held on Wednesday 15 July, bringing together the Presidents of the Commission and the European Council, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Ms Spinant, the summit will be an opportunity to discuss the responses to be made to Covid-19, whether it be on the immediate health response or economic recovery. India is the third most affected country in the world, with nearly 700,000 cases, including 24,000 deaths. The two sides should also discuss ways to strengthen relations, the promotion of multilateralism and global and regional issues of common interest, Spinant said. The summit could also be the occasion to adopt the “EU-India Roadmap 2025”, according to a document obtained by EUROPE. (CG)
