30/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – With only one year left (until 30 June 2021) for Europeans currently living in the United Kingdom to register definitively, the British government announced in a statement on Tuesday 30 June that 3.2 million of them have already received confirmation of their permanent residence in England and of the maintenance of their current rights, as provided for in the withdrawal agreement. A total of 3.3 million permits have been issued, also including Europeans living in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The UK will fully exit the EU on 1 January 2021, but there is a six-month period for 'late entrants' to apply thereafter. According to official statistics, the largest number of applications were filed by Poles (697,900), Romanians (590,100) and Italians (363,600). (SP)
