30/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell welcomed on Monday 29 June the adoption by the Georgian Parliament of constitutional amendments relating to the elections. This adoption “is a key moment in the promotion of greater political pluralism in the country in view of upcoming elections”, he said on Twitter. Mr Borrell said the EU would continue to stand by Georgia in its further election preparations. For their part, the EU and US Ambassadors to Georgia called on all parties “now” to engage in the adoption and effective implementation of the electoral reforms recommended by the OSCE/ODIHR. “These much-needed reforms will help ensure a free, fair, and transparent election environment where Georgians can cast their votes freely at the ballot box”, they explained. Legislative elections are scheduled for October. (CG)
