19/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – A medical team from Lithuania, mobilised through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, was on its way to Armenia on Friday 19 June, the European Commission announced the same day. The team consists of volunteers and members of the Lithuanian Covid-19 crisis management team, who will assist their Armenian colleagues for an initial period of 14 days. Thanking Lithuania for its gesture of solidarity, Janez Lenarčič, European Commissioner for Crisis Management, said in a statement that “the EU is ready to channel further offers of assistance. Transport costs are financed by the EU”. Since the start of the pandemic, the Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre, the pivotal body of the EU's Civil Protection Mechanism, has coordinated the provision of assistance to 16 countries.
