19/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 18 June, MEPs approved (437 votes in favour, 102 against and 147 abstentions) the conclusion of an aviation agreement between the EU and Israel. The agreement should improve connectivity between the two sides and, according to text rapporteur Andor Deli (EPP, Hungary), “bring legal certainty to workers and companies”. Mr Deli spoke at the opening of the plenary session on Wednesday in defence of the Parliament’s vote on the text. The S&D Group had requested a postponement (see EUROPE 12509/7). Clare Daly (GUE/NGL, Ireland), who had called on her colleagues to support the postponement, said that the adoption of the agreement was “an encouragement of bilateral relations with the State of Israel” and in fact sent “an inconsistent message from the European Parliament”.
