19/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Union Heads of State or Government agreed on Friday 19 June to extend economic sanctions against Russia after German Chancellor Angela Merkel provided a status update regarding the implementation of the Minsk agreements. “It means now that the EU Council can proceed with the rollover of sanctions”, announced the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, at the end of the virtual summit. Adopted in 2014 (see EUROPE 11133/2, 11153/13), these restrictive measures run until 31 July 2020 (see EUROPE 12394/34). These specifically include the finance, energy, and defence sectors as well as dual-use goods. (CG)
