08/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 7 May, Luxembourg ratified CETA, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement with Canada (see EUROPE 11826/14, 11726/1). The EU/Canada Strategic Partnership Agreement was approved immediately afterwards. “We look forward to working with Luxembourg to build on this model of open and inclusive trade for our collective economic recovery post Covid-19”, EU Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan rejoiced on 8 May on his Twitter account. Luxembourg thus joins 13 other Member States which have already ratified the agreement: Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Portugal and the Czech Republic. But several parliamentary assemblies, including those of France and the Netherlands, are still struggling to complete their ratification of this controversial treaty. (HD)
