The European Commission announced on Friday 8 May that it was launching a public consultation (https://bit.ly/2YLuKek ) on the European Union’s agricultural promotion policy.
The consultation aims to gather feedback from citizens and stakeholders on the effectiveness and relevance of current measures and their coherence with EU action in other areas and on the added value of implementing such a policy at EU level.
Janusz Wojciechowski, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, said that the EU’s promotion policy “helps to maintain a good reputation” of EU products and aims to “support the competitiveness of our products at the global level”. But it is important, he says, to ensure “that we do it in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible, while contributing to sustainable production and consumption”.
Promotion measures help to raise consumer awareness of the merits of consuming EU agricultural products and production methods, as well as to raise awareness of products protected by geographical indications and organic products. The consultation will be open for 18 weeks. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
