08/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 8 May, on behalf of the EU, Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, condemned “in the strongest possible terms” the latest indiscriminate series of shellings and attacks against civilians that were carried out during the night of 7 May in a number of residential neighbourhoods in Tripoli, including near the Italian diplomatic mission. The attacks, which the EU says were carried out by forces loyal to Marshal Khalifa Haftar, killed at least five “innocent civilians” and injured many more. “Any kind of indiscriminate strike against civilians and civilian infrastructure is unacceptable and runs counter to the respect for human life and international humanitarian law”, Borrell said. At least 15 people are reported to have been killed and about 50 wounded in rocket attacks on Tripoli since 6 May. (CG)
