10/07/2017 (Agence Europe) – The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) concluded between the EU and Canada will provisionally enter into force on 21 September next, according to an announcement made by European and Canadian leaders on Saturday 8 July during the G20 meeting in Hamburg (see EUROPE 11820). In a joint declaration, Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, explained that the date chosen for the entry into force of the provision application of the agreement would allow the EU and Canada the time to take all necessary measures for its implementation. The agreement will now be applied provisionally and will enter into force permanently once all EU member state Parliaments have ratified the text of the agreement in compliance with the domestic requirements of their respective constitutions.
