10/07/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 8 July, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) condemned a terrorist attack that took place in Egypt the previous day. A car bomb struck a checkpoint and a military compound, in north eastern Sinai, and left at least 21 soldiers dead. "The European Union stands in solidarity with, and expresses its support to, the government and people of Egypt in their fight against terrorism", the EEAS spokesperson stated. The attack was claimed by so-called Islamic State. In retaliation, the Egyptian police said it had killed 14 jihadists in an attack on a training camp in Ismaïliya Province (north east) on 8 July.
