10/07/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European External Action Service spokesperson called on Friday 7 July for Israeli authorities to reconsider the construction permits for over 1,500 settlement units in East Jerusalem and also possible settlement development plans that are expected to move forward, including in the Palestinian neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah. “The settlement policy is illegal under international law, and its continuation undermines the viability of the two-state solution and the prospect for a lasting peace”, once again argued the spokesperson, adding that the EU expects both sides to engage in a meaningful process towards a negotiated two-state solution. The EU, together with international and regional partners, stands ready to support the two sides in this endeavour, the spokesperson stated. (CG)
