Parliament's rapporteur on ‘climate law’ supports a 65% emissions reduction target for 2030

28/04/2020 (Agence Europe)Speaking on the Swedish radio, Sveriges, Jytte Guteland (S&D, Sweden), rapporteur for the European Parliament on the proposed 'climate law' (see EUROPE 12464/20), announced, on Tuesday 28 April, that she would support an increase in the EU's 2030 greenhouse gas emission reduction target to 65%, in line with scientists' demands. Welcomed by the NGO Greenpeace, this announcement comes at a time when the European Commission plans to publish an impact study by September on the possibility of raising the 2030 target from a 40% reduction in emissions to a reduction of 50 to 55% compared to 1990 levels. Ms Guteland's report on the ‘climate law’ proposed by the Commission at the beginning of March (see EUROPE 12439/2) is due to be presented to the Parliament's Committee on Environment on 27 May. (DG
