Germany will cover cost of European patients hospitalised in country

On Monday 20 April, Germany announced that it will cover the cost of European COVID-19 patients that it has treated in its hospitals. “This is our understanding of European solidarity”, said German Health Minister Jens Spahn. 

According to the German government, the costs of caring for these patients are estimated to be nearly 20 million euros. Berlin, which has more intensive care beds, has so far taken in “more than 200 European coronavirus patients”and has “the capacity, if...
