20/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent on Thursday 16 April to Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean, the public transport authorities of 29 metropolises - united under the auspices of the EMTA (European Metropolitan Transport Authorities) - are calling for more EU support. The pandemic has led to a significant decline in the sector’s revenues, which must nevertheless maintain some of its activities. EMTA is concerned about “accumulating costs” and fears that the objectives of sustainable mobility cannot be achieved. It therefore is suggesting, in particular, deferring interest due until 2020 or allocating additional subsidies “in order to avoid jeopardising the many projects underway throughout Europe” to enable the sector’s energy transition. The association believes that public transport has a role to play in a green recovery of the European economy. Consult the letter: https://bit.ly/34Uwumj (AC)
