31/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – The spokesperson for the European External Action Service denounced on Monday 30 March the continuing hostilities in Yemen, including the recent missile attack by the Ansar Allah movement against Saudi Arabia, military activity in Marib province and the latest air strikes in Sana'a. “This goes completely against the calls by the United Nations for a ceasefire, as well as most recent EU statements, at a time when the parties should stop hostilities and be united in fighting the coronavirus pandemic,” the spokesman said in his statement. On 27 March, he had welcomed the announcements by the Yemeni government and Ansar Allah that the situation would be eased (see EUROPE 12456/21). The spokesman called on the parties to seize this moment’s potential for de-escalation and use it to establish a formal ceasefire. (CG)
