31/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 31 March, the European Commission announced the results of the ERC Advanced Grant 2020, an annual competition organised by the European Research Council (ERC). A total of €450 million will be allocated to the 185 winning researchers. This funding, which is part of the Horizon 2020 program, will allow them to conduct cutting-edge research focusing, for example, on the ability of cancer cells to divide, the assessment of climate change based on the study of tree rings, or economic solutions to combat violence against women. These new projects should lead to the creation of about 1,800 new jobs in the research sector. “The crisis we are facing today reminds us how important it is to listen to scientific advice”, said Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation and Youth.
