03/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 3 March several MEPs demanded an explanation from the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, as to why Greta Thunberg is still due to visit Parliament on Wednesday 4 March, when all other visits have been banned due to the coronavirus outbreak (see EUROPE 12437/24). “On Tuesday at 11.52am, all MEPs received an email in their inbox [...] telling them that the extraordinary meeting of the [ENVI] Committee in the presence of Greta Thunberg, to which all MEPs are invited, was going ahead”, said Jérôme Rivière (ID, France) in a statement. Nuno Melo (EPP, Portugal) said “there is no logic to the fact that people are forbidden from visiting the European Parliament and all hearings are cancelled, with the sole exception of Greta Thunberg, as if all human beings were not democratically susceptible to risk”.
