03/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 3 March, the General Court Vice-President rejected the interim procedure for Catalan separatist activist Oriol Junqueras, who is currently imprisoned for sedition in Spain. Mr Junqueras brought an appeal before the General Court of the European Union to set aside the European Parliament’s decision on 13 January declaring his seat vacant as of 3 January (see EUROPE 12395/5) and the European Parliament’s rejection of the request, submitted on 20 December 2019, for urgent measures to protect his parliamentary immunity. According to the judge, the European Parliament does not seem to have adopted a decision rejecting the 20 December request. He reiterates that an EU judge cannot take the place of the European Parliament in order to take decisions with regard to compliance with a judgment. (PH)
