03/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 3 March, the European Commission announced €31 million to help Burma and Bangladesh deal with the ‘Rohingya crisis’. Of the funds, €18.5 million will go to the most vulnerable groups among refugees and host communities in Bangladesh for essential health care, food assistance and education in emergency situations. In addition, €3.5 million will be devoted to strengthening the capacity of local communities to prepare for and manage natural disasters. Burmese communities in Rakhine, Kachin and Shan states will receive €6.5 million in aid for health care, food, education, shelter and protection with support for registration and documentation, and €2.5 million will help strengthen the local preparedness system in case of conflict or natural disaster.
