18/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission should soon be ready to present a new European 'blacklist' of non-Member States with anti-money laundering arrangements that have deficiencies that threaten the European financial system (see EUROPE 12193/28), Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis said at a press conference on Tuesday 18 February. "Last time, the signal from Member States was very clear that they expect a closer alignment of the EU list with the Financial Action Task Force list (see EUROPE 12205/6). The FATF is updating its list [ ...] this week and, following this update, I would say relatively shortly, we will also be coming up with a proposal for an updated EU list", he said. It will not, however, be a "copy/paste" of the FATF list, he warned, confirming that the Commission still intends to continue with its autonomous methodology (see EUROPE 12340/19). (MF)
