EU welcomes adoption of several important laws

The EU Ambassador to North Macedonia, Samuel Žbogar, welcomed on Monday 17 February the adoption of several important laws by the Macedonian Parliament before its dissolution in the run-up to parliamentary elections on 12 April.

These laws regard the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Council of Public Prosecutors, and the Automated Court Case Management System.

Their implementation should strengthen the Rule of Law and allow for greater professionalism and efficiency in the judicial system to the benefit of the citizens of North Macedonia”, the Ambassador stressed in a statement. He added that this legislation, as well as the legislation on persons without regulated civil status and the electoral code, respond to the recommendations of the EU country reports and confirmed, in his view, “North Macedonia’s determination to pursue the path of European integration”.

Several Member States called for the adoption of the public prosecution law before deciding on the opening of EU accession negotiations with Skopje (see EUROPE 12413/22). (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
