04/12/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has issued a press release announcing that nine additional Member States are committed to creating a quantum communication infrastructure within ten years (see EUROPE 12294/28). These are Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, France, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Finland. These countries are joining an initiative launched in June 2019 at the Digital Assembly, which calls for participants to develop, in collaboration with the European Commission, “an action plan exploring the benefits and feasibility of setting up a quantum communication infrastructure in Europe”. Representatives of 24 major European companies manufacturing quantum technology products and systems recently signed a document in which they strongly support this initiative. (SPj)
