04/12/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Netherlands called on Wednesday 4 December for a review of European competition law, which would allow the Commission to intervene if it found that non-Member State companies, supported by their state, were distorting EU market rules to establish their dominance. Without naming any country - although China was on everyone's mind - the Netherlands notes in a working document that European companies have to face "economic operators from non-Member States who do not always play by the same rules". They raise the issue of state aid and the question of "ownership of foreign companies in the countries of origin" of these companies suspected of distorting EU rules. Unfair competition from Chinese companies in the EU is often criticised by the EU. (LC)
